Families Empowerment

SETI’s Family Empowerment program allows families to perform their role as parents, as educators to their children in the absence of suitable services, as guides to other families, as well as advocates for the rights of their children. Families thus acquire effective techniques in their everyday dealings with their children, participate in their child’s intervention program, guide other families who do not have access to such services, and advocate for the rights of their children with authorities as well as with the community in general in order to better accompany their children through their journey. SETI trains other entities on applying the same model.

Formation of Siblings Support Groups

Siblings are family members who are often neglected by professionals working with families of children and youth with disabilities, even though they may also experience stress due to the presence of their brother or sister with a disability. Siblings support groups aim to answer questions and concerns of siblings of children and youth with disabilities, support them in including their siblings in their daily activities, and help them raise awareness in their communities about the issue of disabilities and face comments from their peers in various settings. Most importantly, support groups help them to know that they are not alone in this situation and to share experiences with each other. Professionals and other associations are also trained in implementing SETI’s Siblings Support Groups program.

Formation of Parents Support Groups and Advocacy Groups

Support groups of parents of children and youth with disabilities are formed, in order to help parents exchange experience and organize initiative through their collective efforts to improve the situation of children and youth with disabilities, their inclusion in the community and their access to their rights indicated in the laws. Professionals in other associations are also trained on implementing SETI’s program for the formation of Parents Support Groups.

Guidance and Counseling

Counseling is offered to families of persons with disabilities along with referral to other needed services, allowing families to understand the nature of the problem of the family member with disabilities and the types of services he/she may need. Counseling and guidance are offered to families coming to SETI premises in the various locations, as well as in a mobile manner, where SETI team meets families at gathering spots in various governorates upon the request of groups of families or community entities.
